Eligibility Requirements
GREENSHIP Existing Building is intended for constructed buildings that have been operating for an extended period or for at least one year after construction.
Before beginning the certification process, the project must meet GBCI's eligibility requirements.
- Minimum Building Area
- The project must have a minimum Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 250 m².
- Building Data Access
- The building owner must be willing to sign an agreement permitting relevant building data to be studied by GBCI for case-study purposes.
- Environmental Management Documentation
- The building must possess the applicable Environmental Management and Monitoring documentation, referred to as UKL-UPL, endorsed by the relevant authority, as required under the applicable provisions.
- Certificate of Function Worthiness
- The building must possess a Certificate of Function Worthiness (Sertifikat Laik Fungsi or SLF) issued by the relevant local government.

GREENSHIP EB evaluates building sustainability through six assessment categories. Each category contains specific criteria, including prerequisites, credit points, and bonus points where applicable under the selected rating tool version.

Evaluates the relationship between the project, its site, and its surroundings, including applicable considerations for site development and accessibility.

Certification Levels
GREENSHIP certification recognizes a project's achievement against the applicable rating tool requirements and scoring thresholds.
Eligible projects can achieve one of four certification levels

GREENSHIP Existing Building Certification Flow
Step 1: Registration
Start by learning how GREENSHIP Existing Building certification works and what your building needs to prepare. GBCI can introduce the certification process and, where feasible, arrange a building visit to provide an initial understanding of the project. The building owner then appoints a GREENSHIP Professional (GP) to help coordinate the certification process and support the assessment. GP consultation fees are agreed separately between the owner and the GP.
Step 2: Eligibility Verification
Before proceeding, GBCI verifies whether the building meets the eligibility requirements for GREENSHIP Existing Building. The building owner submits an expression of interest, pays the Rp5.000.000 registration donation, and completes the registration form with the four required eligibility documents. Once the submission is complete and the requirements are met, GBCI issues an official eligibility statement so the project can move forward.
Step 3: Project Registration and Preliminary Assessment
Once the cooperation agreement is signed and the initial 25% certification payment is made, the building is formally registered as a GREENSHIP project. The owner and project team can then establish a certification timeline, participate in a walkthrough assessment workshop, and gain a clearer understanding of the rating criteria and areas that may need improvement. The team also begins gathering historical and current building performance data, including an energy audit arranged by the owner through a third-party provider. These activities help the team prepare for the formal assessment.
Step 4: Assessment and Verification
With the second payment of 65% completed, the building owner, supported by the GP, prepares the assessment forms and supporting evidence based on the required building documentation. The verification team reviews the submitted information and conducts site verification and sampling to evaluate the building against GREENSHIP criteria. Once the required submissions are complete, the verifier presents its recommendation to the Board of Assessors, which determines the final certification rating. The remaining 10% payment is made at the applicable submission milestone.
Step 5: Certification
After the assessment is completed and the final rating is formally determined, the building receives a GREENSHIP Existing Building certificate at the awarded level. The certification recognizes the building's assessed performance against GREENSHIP criteria and provides a reference for communicating its sustainability efforts. Under the described procedure, GBCI issues the certificate within a maximum of 60 working days after all assessment forms and supporting documents have been confirmed complete.
